Rovers of the Month: Dan and Christina Honeymoon!
After hearing so much about Iceland, Dan Jones and Christina Wiens came to see what all the fuss was about. And what better time to visit than your honeymoon? They frolicked between the tectonic plates and stood on top of a glacier! Here, they tell us more about their trip with us.
What motivated you to visit Iceland?
We kept seeing photos of Iceland on Instagram, and kept hearing people talk about how great the scenery is in the country. It seemed like every other week someone we knew or followed on social media was going, and if that many people found it amazing, we knew we had to see it for ourselves.
I was amazed that we could stand in the space between tectonic plates!
How long was your stay? Did you travel solo or with a group?
Dan and I were in Iceland for 5 days on our honeymoon.
Which tour did you take and why did you choose it?
We chose Essential Iceland, because it was a list of things that we weren’t planning on doing on our own. We drove down the south coast so we wanted to do a tour that covered other parts of the island. And seeing lava and a glacier were on the absolute must-do list.
What is one thing you will always remember about your tour?
Feeling as if we were venturing out onto the surface of the moon on the way to the Glacier. When we finally stood on top of it and looked around, it was completely surreal. We also had so much fun with Valdi—he was so funny and we learned so much from him. His talks about elves and the natural wonders of Iceland we will always remember.
What is something that you learned about Iceland that surprised you?
We knew there was a lot of geothermal activity on the island, but had no idea of the extent of it. I was amazed that we could stand in the space between tectonic plates!
If you had more time in Iceland, what else would you like to see and do?
We will be back eventually to explore the rest of the island, including the entire Ring Road and the Westfjords especially. We would love to come back and rent a caravan to drive around the entire country, and we’d love to see the Northern Lights.
What tips do you have for people who want to visit Iceland?
Rent a car. There’s so much to do and see outside of Reykjavik that having a car makes so much easier. And definitely book a tour with Iceland Rovers: there are things we learned and places we visited that we would never have been able to do on our own.

What adventure are you off to next? What is your next dream adventure?
We went to the Faroe Islands and the highlands of Scotland after Iceland for the remainder of our honeymoon, but the next major adventure might be Japan. I think a big dream adventure for us is to eventually move away from the US and live abroad.
