Just walking on these ancient giants, feeling the ice under your feet and hearing the crunching sound as your crampons sink into the frozen surface is its own adventure. Or, you could try your skills at ice climbing. The glacier has ice walls of different shapes and sizes and Iceland Rovers have the knowledge to find the perfect challenge for your group. Why not enjoy some refreshments while up in this unique environment? A buffet with a mixture of something warm and cool might be just what you need.

Glacier Adventure - Glacier Walk

A Glacier Walk is a great way to experience Icelandic Nature. The nearest glaciers are only about 2 hours away from Reykjavík and it's ideal to get a group up on the glacier Sólheimajökull just after having passed the world famous volcano Eyjafjallajökull. Our Glacier Walk on crampons is safe and easy. After walking only a short distance up the ice field a wonderland of ice sculptures, ridges and deep crevasses await your discovery. Keep in mind that Icelandic Rovers have the knowledge and training to find the perfect challenge for you and your group on the Glacier. This could be a day tour from Reykjavík or a part of a larger program.

Note: We are not bound to Sólheimajökull for our Glacier Walks. We can be very flexible and just for an example we could operate the Glacier Walk from our base in Skaftafell National Park just underneath the highest summit of Iceland Hvannadalshnúkur.

Ice Climbing

Some groups like to have more challenge than others. Ice Climbing is just the perfect way to push your group’s limits. Keep in mind that Ice Climbing can suit everyone because it is rely easy to adjust the difficulty level. Hot spring Hike

Iceland is richer in hot springs and high-temperature geo-thermal activity than any other country in the world. In a short distance from Reykjavík lies the Hengill Volcano geothermal area. An easy hike takes you through a landscape shaped by geothermal activity, where the view of boiling hot springs and bubbling mud pools awaken your imagination. The hike continues down through Reykjadalur (e. the Smokey Valley) where it is possible and highly recommended to enjoy a natural bath in a warm stream. This is a great half-day trek(4-5hours) that everyone can participate in. Get in touch with the pure Icelandic nature on your own two feet.

Note: This tour can be combined with lots of other tours such as short Glacier Walks, Caving, whale watching, Sea Angling, horse back riding and more. Hot springs are to be found all over Iceland and are very often a hidden secret of the locals. Special hot spring hunts can be provided by Iceland Rovers.

Caving

Within The Lava fields of Iceland there are hidden secrets, both mythical and natural. Many lava caves have been discovered all over the country and some of them are easily accessible for individuals and groups of different sizes. This adventures journey takes you to one of the many lava caves in the Bláfjöll mountain range, just east of Reykjavík. There you will find out how lava caves are formed and discover the beauty of stalagmites and stalactites. This is a 1/2 day tour that takes you through the hidden beauties of the underworld.

Note: It is common tail that elves, ghosts and other mystical beings are to be found in the Icelandic nature, especially in caves, stones, glaciers, lava fields and mountains. Each tail, scary or funny has a different feel and tradition to itself. Many Icelanders still believe in those mystical things so come find out for yourself if they are true or not.

For a more adventurous ride, take a modified 4x4 up on the top of the century old ice of a glacier down to the black sandy beaches right by the powerful Atlantic ocean.

Fimmvörðuháls Volcano – Superjeep and Hiking

Explore the grounds of the 2010 Volcano Eruption in the surroundings of Eyjafjallajökull. The Super Jeeps take you up to about 800m altitude and from there we walk for about an hour to reach the craters Magni and Móði (1100m). These are the craters that erupted just before the principal crater of Eyjafjallajökull. Dive or Snorkel in the world famous Silfra

The Silfra rift is an absolute world class dive site due to two main reasons. First of all you will be diving in a crack between the American and Eurasian continents. It's the place where the continental plates meet and drift apart about 2cm per year. Secondly the visibility that you will experience will rarely be surpassed, if ever. 100m+! The Silfra water is as pristine as water can get and you can drink it at anytime during the dives. The National park Thingvellir has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, both for its cultural & historical significance as well as natural & geological uniqueness. Silfra is only 50 km from Reykjavík (30 miles). This is about a half day tour.

Note: No experience or licenses are required for Snorkeling. For Diving you need minimum experience and a diving license (Padi or similar). All the activities in Silfra are done in dry- suites, that way you´ll keep as dry and warm as possible.
