Day 0 (22.08.2012): Arrival in Iceland, accommodations at a comfortable guesthouse centrally located in Reykjavik, double room and shared facilities.
Day 1 (23.08.2012): Depart for Eyjafjörður and the comfortable country hotel at Skjaldarvík our home away from home for the next few days. Enroute we stop at Iceland´s textile museum at the village of Blönduós: it displays an amazing collection of handknits but also weaving and Icelandic costumes. While admiring and even touching the handknits – something that very few museums allow - Hélène will tell us more about the Icelandic knitting history. We enjoy a picnic lunch in some spectacular setting before arrival at Skjaldarvík where we have a time for a short rest before a welcoming dinner. Accommodations in double rooms, shared facilities.
Day 2 (24.08.2012): Today is a knitting day: inspired by the beautiful inserts and three-cornered shawls we saw at the Museum the day before, Hélène will tell us all about Icelandic intarsia in the morning while we will discover the wonders of Icelandic lace later in the afternoon. Breakfast, lunch and dinner on the premises. Possibility of going horse riding.
Day 3 (25.08.2012): After breakfast we set out on an excursion to the truly amazing Lake Mývatn where many a wonder is to be discovered. We visit the Thermal baths before heading back to our accommodations at Skjaldarvík.
Day 4 (26.08.2012): Today we start the day with a Lopi knitting workshop, later followed by the Steek with me! workshop. After lunch we get ready to visit Akureyri – the capital of the north but still a very provincial and quaint little town. Optional visit to the local Swimming Pool. Dinner at Skjaldarvík.
Day 5 (27.08.2012): We take leave of the cozy Skjaldarvík homestay today and head back to Reykjavík, taking the highland road of Kjölur passing the unlikely highland oasis of Hveravellir where we will be able to bath and stopping at the Gullfoss waterfall and the Geysir geothermal area before arriving in Reykjavík in the late afternoon. Picnic lunch in a convenient setting. Accommodations at the same guesthouse, double room and shared facilities.
