Itinerary:

Day 0 (29.06.2012): Arrival in Iceland, accommodations at a comfortable guesthouse centrally located in Reykjavik, double room and shared facilities.


Day 1 (30.06.2012): Transfer to Reykjavík airport and flight to Egilsstaðir. Transfer to Borgarfjörður Eystri where we visit the local puffin colony before settling in at the local guesthouse. Dressed beds with shared facilities. Hike around the village to visit the Elfin hill and the little church. We pay a visit to the local designers and get a chance to knit and chat with them about the Elves.


Day 2 (1.07.2012): We set out for a full day´s hike to the inlet of Breiðavík enjoying the magnificent colors of the area. Hiking across passes and valleys till we reach the cosy hut at Breiðavík, where we will stay for the next 2 nights. Sleeping bag accomodations. Evening knitting and listening to Hélène telling us about the Icelandic knitting heritage.
Distance: 14 km/9 mi Walking time: 7-9 hrs Ascent/Descent:600 /800 m-1970/2625 feet


Day 3 (2.07.2012): We do a morning knitting workshop and set out for a short excursion in these splendid settings returning to the lovely hut for the night. Evening knitting under the midnight sun.
Walking time: 3-4 hrs


Day 4 (3.07.2012): We set out on a different route to Borgarfjörður Eystri arriving in the quaint little village in the afternoon. Accommodations in a guesthouse with dressed beds and shared facilities.
Distance: 12km 7,5 mi Walking time: 5-7 hrs Ascent/Descent:500 m/1650‘


Day 5 (4.07.2012) We start the day with a transfer to Vatnsskarð pass where our last hike awaits, taking us into the impressive Stórurð. After finishing our hike we continue to Egilsstaðir for the return flight to Reykjavík. Transfer to our guesthouse centrally located in Reykjavík, double rooms, shared facilities. Breakfast and lunch.
Distance: 14,5 km 9 mi Walking time: 6 – 8 hrs Ascent/Descent:300 m/500m 990’/1650’


Day 6 (5.07.2012) In the morning, we drive to Hvanneyri where we have an Icelandic plant dyed workshop with botanist and dyer Guðrún Bjarnadóttir. The colors of her plant dyed lace yarn (Hespa) remind us of the colors in the moutains we just left... We then enjoy a free afternoon in Reykjavík before meeting again in the evening at one of the largest knitting cafe in Iceland. Accommodations at a comfortable guesthouse centrally located in Reykjavík, double rooms, shared facilities. Breakfast and lunch.
