Þingvellir, Gullfoss, Geysir and Langjökull in a Super Jeep
Þingvellir National Park, home of Iceland’s ancient Viking parliament and listed as a UNESCO’s World Heritage site will be our first stop. There we take a walk to experience firsthand the geological phenomenon that is the Mid-Atlantic ridge. From Þingvellir we head east over Lyngdalsheiði following a mountain road with great views of the rugged lava fields, passing Laugarvatn lake, we arrive at Haukadalur, home of the great Geysir and the reliable Strokkur geyser that erupts with 3 to 7 minutes intervals. Next the magnificent Gullfoss awaits us as it comes cascading down the white colored Hvítá river. We then head up to Langjökull glacier for a look and feel of the glacier. During the summer months we take the backroads through lava fields for a super jeep adventure back to Reykjavík.
Note: Þingvellir is sometimes written Thingvellir or Pingvellir.
