Rover of the Month: Cliff Proposes

Rover of the Month: Cliff Proposes

Welcome to our “Rover of the Month” series! Each week we will feature individuals that were inspired to make every moment an experience in Iceland by going out on epic tours with us that allowed them to interact with nature.

This week's instalment of our "Rover of the Month" series tells the story of Cliff, who went with with his girlfriend, came back with his fiancée and now his wife! 3 months after the wedding, I caught up with Cliff and he told me the whole story.

What motivated you to visit Iceland?

My wife really wanted to see the Northern Lights, and we were choosing between different Northern Lights destinations like Canada, Norway and Finland and Iceland. We did our research, and we figured that since we come from Singapore, which is an island itself, it felt right to go to another island to travel around.

How long was your stay? Did you travel solo or with a group?

It was just my wife and myself. We stayed a total of 12 days and went on three separate tours.

If you had more time in Iceland, what else would you like to see and do?

I want to come back in summer. I understand it's a totally different country in summer. Our tour guide was telling us about the summer in the highlands. This is one of the main reason we still have Iceland on the radar.

What tips do you have for people who want to visit Iceland?

The average temperature is Singapore is about 30/35 degrees. It’s quite a big climate change. So we always make sure to warn people to layer their clothes properly for one, and then not to worry too much about money exchange, because it's convenient everywhere and everywhere accepts credit cards.

I would always advise my friend to book tours from local operators rather than agencies in Singapore, for example. This is because it is very commercialised, and I think they would enjoy it a lot more. We did three months of research before we decided on Iceland, and then we chose Icelandic Mountain Guides against another operator based on a tip off we got from a guide in Iceland that said that Icelandic Mountain Guides safety standards were the best.
