This
day tour departs from Reykjavik and from there we will enter the rough
mountain tracks of Hellisheidi to explore the fascinating thermal
activity of the ancient Hengill volcano.
After a short walk between boiling hot springs and bubbling mud
pools, we continue to the greenhouse village of Hveragerði. After that,
we will stop for lunch in a small fishing village before heading
towards the Reykjanes peninsula.
Driving along the southern coast of the Reykjanes peninsula we visit
the black beach of the Atlantic coast and look for seals. Continuing
on, we’ll see and explore a few craters and lava fields where the
continents are literally drifting apart. Next, we’ll visit hot springs
and the sulfatares area at Krisuvik and then Lake Kleifarvatn before
returning to Reykjavik. The moonlike surroundings of the lake never
fail to leave a strong impression on our visitors!
