Eyjafjallajökull Volcano Eruption on Snowmobile - ILR18

This tour is set up to witness the current eruption in col Fimmvörðuháls, between the Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull Glaciers on snowmobiles.

We head out of Reykjavík in the afternoon in the direction of Mýrdalsjökull Glacier, that lies just east of the Fimmvörðuháls col where the eruption is taking place. The Super Jeep will then take you up a mountain track to the Mýrdalsjökull Glacier where you will drive a snowmobile that will take you more quickly than possible in a jeep to the site of the volcano where you will be able to enjoy being as  close to the eruption as is possible in a safe way.  As darkness sets in, the glow from the lava fountains surging from the volcano will become more visible and this display of nature’s volatile forcefulness will become more impressive.  From up here, you will experience this unique event with all of your senses as the sounds and the vibrations from the eruption will be equally imposing. Estimated arrival time in Reykjavík is between 01:00 and 02:00 after midnight.

If you prefer an earlier tour, try our 4x4 volcano tour.
