The Eruption on Fimmvörðuháls is no longer active. However a second eruption has begun and is quite a sight as well. We are offering great new tours to the second eruption. Check out our complete up to date overview of the eruption tours.

This tour is set up to witness the current eruption in col Fimmvörðuháls, between the Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull Glaciers.

We set out from Reykjavík in the afternoon and head towards the Mýrdalsjökull Glacier that lies just east of the eruption site on Fimmvörðuháls col. From there we head up to higher grounds as we start our ascent on the Super Jeep up onto this fourth largest glacier in Iceland. We then turn North West and drive across the Mýrdalsjökull Ice Cap to the site of the eruption. Arriving in time for the late afternoon light we wait for twilight to better enjoy the glowing colors of the erupting volcano against the evening sky. This tour takes you as close to this unique natural phenomenon as can be done in a safe way safely.

Please note that weather conditions on Mýrdalsjökull Glacier are variable and that this tour might be altered when conditions are difficult. Nobody knows when the eruption ends; it can take days, weeks, months or years.
