The Eruption on Fimmvörðuháls is no longer active. However a second eruption has begun and is quite a sight as well. We are offering great new tours to the second eruption. Check out our complete up to date overview of the eruption tours.
This tour is set up to witness the current eruption in col Fimmvörðuháls, between the Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull glaciers.
We leave Reykjavik in the afternoon. Our road takes us east to the town of Hvolsvöllur and then into The Thorsmörk Nature Reserve, for a good view of the eruption in the Eyjafjallajökull Glacier. The Thorsmörk Nature Reserve is an oasis behind the mountains where the lava is creeping down into the valley. To reach the best view points for the eruption some easy and very rewarding hiking (1-2hrs) is necessary. The goal is to be on site in time for the late afternoon light and then wait for darkness to see the glowing colors of the flowing lava light up the valley. The hike will take us to approx. 5-6 km distance from the active erupting Eyjafjallajökull volcano. Our carefully selected location and experienced guides will get you close enough to experience the volcano while in total safety.
On this tour you will get a unique opportunity to see Mother Nature at work!
