The eruption in Eyjafjal
lajökull glacier ceased on the 23rd of May and no activity has been visible in the volcano since then. This is good news for Iceland and travellers all over the world and last but not least for the local farmers who had endured more then their share of ashfall. Iceland Rovers is offering 4x4 super jeep tours to the site of the recent eruption in the Eyjafjallajökull Glacier. We have different tours on our scedule that offer a different experience of the area. Driving through this region is something to remember. The colors er dampened by the grey of the ash that has entierly changed the appearance of the land. However sprouts of green grass have broken their way through the thick black ash reminding us that mother nature has seen this all before.
A bus will take us through the southern low lands to a small local farm guesthouse where we are provided with a two course lunch right under the Eyjafjallajökull massif. After our lunch a Super Jeep will transport us high up to the hills above to get a look at the blackened glacier and the summit crater as safely and legally possible. On the way down you will enjoy some fabulous landscape and before we head out to explore the region further we will take a tour to the black send beaches below with the volcanic Westman Islands just off the coast.

This is a long standing classic of Iceland Rovers tours, combining black sand beaches, a walk on the Sólheimajökull Glacier and great views of some of Iceland's favorite waterfalls. For many years the guides on this tour have been joking about the Eyjafjallajökull Volcano, "Will it erupt on this tour?". Well now that it has erupted it makes the tour is all the more interesting. An added bonus to the already diverse tour is to walk on a normally blue and white glacier now black we whit stripes of white, snd seeing how the eruption has changed the face of the farmlands under the volcano. A 4x4 super jeep will pick you and a small group of co travellers up in Reykjavík in tho morning. The aim will then be put on the Eyjafjallajökull Volcano for a lunch at a small farm guest house before heading on up the volcanos slopes to witness the Eyjafjallajökull eruption from as close as safely and legally possible. Iceland Rovers has exclusive access to this 4x4 mountain track that takes us to a viewpoint high up on the volcano. Night time is an amazing time to witness how fire and ice have come toghether in this recent outburst of nature. Our 4x4 super jeep and driver will pick you up in the early evening to take you to the eruption area to see the black ash covered farm fields and experience the special feel of this area. After we will head into the valley west of the Eyjafjallajökull Glacier wher we can best see how this eruption has changed the face of the glacier.
