Icelandic Mountain Guides Receive the 2010 SAF Entrepreneurship Awards

Today Icelandic Mountain Guides received the 2010 SAF (The Icelandic Travel Industry Association) entrepreneurship awards. There were 20 companies nominated and out of all of them, the award committee said that Icelandic Mountain Guides had shown a level of professionalism that should set the standard for others in the travel business in Iceland.

Campaign introducing Iceland to the world launched today

Today a campaign called Inspired by Iceland promoting Iceland and all of its options for tourists launched its first viral advertisement. Icelanders all over were given the task, sending friends and families abroad videos, stories, e-cards and links from the site. It has been a great success, as of now over 1.6 million messages have ben sent!

New Eyjafjallajökull Eruption Tours

The eruption in Eyjafjallajökull glacier ceased on the 23rd of May and no activity has been visible in the volcano since then. This is good news for Iceland and travellers all over the world and last but not least for the local farmers who had endured more then their share of ashfall. The area affected by the eruption is a special place ot visit and Iceland Rovers is offering 4x4 super jeep tours to the region under the volcano. See an overview of all our eruption tours here.


Tours running on schedule after the eruption

The Volcanic Eruption in Eyjafjallajökull Glacier has calmed down in the past few days and stabilized at around one tenth of its original power. The effect on air traffic has greatly diminished and all but one of our tours in the area are running on schedule. South Coast, Glaciers and Waterfalls ILR10 is back on track and can offer great views of the eruption as well.

Traveller notice for the Eyjafjallajökull Eruption

The volcano of Eyjafjallajökull Glacier began erupting in the morning of the 12th of April 2010 shortly after the eruption on Fimmvörðuháls stopped. This second eruption is estimated to be between ten or twenty times more powerful than the first eruption. The first eruption caused no damage and was described as the “perfect tourist eruption” giving us great opportunities to offer exciting new tours.

Volcanoes are an unpredictable phenomena and you never know what‘s next. The eruption on Fimmvörðuháls that began on the 20th of March ended abruptly on the 12th of April. Early this morning, on the 14th, a second eruption began underneath the Eyjafjallajökull Glacier about 8 kilometers from the original eruption.

Top Gear visits Iceland Volcano Eruption

Top Gear, the famous British TV show has come to Iceland to film an episode at the Eyjafjallajökull Eruption on Fimmvörðuháls. Top Gear host, James May came to Iceland and teamed up with an Icelandic Super Jeep modification company to drive up to the top of the volcano and film.
